Wet and Potentially Wild Weekend?

Posted June 27th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 145 comments

All the ingredients seem to be coming together for..maybe not a major/significant weather event, but certainly an interesting one this weekend across the Northeast. Warm, humid air, along with an approaching slow moving trough and cold front will lead to a good setup for heavy rain and potentially good setup... Continue reading…

Severe Weather Chances: Thursday/Weekend

Posted June 25th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 104 comments

We're keeping an eye on what could be an interesting day Thursday. Tonight, we're watching a complex of storms. A look at a satellite picture shows this complex in Ohio and moving due east. This will continue east and possibly ESE into Pennsylvania, likely missing most of (if... Continue reading…

What the Hail is Going On!?

Posted June 24th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 30 comments

First of all...just to touch on current weather forecasts. Thursday is questionable right now. I think the models forecasting the MCS here tomorrow night is too far north. We should see whatever does form miss us south. Then on Thursday afternoon, as long as we get some sun, there's... Continue reading…

Thunderstorms: What Am I Seeing?

Posted June 18th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 46 comments

After the last couple of weeks and going through the storms of last summer, it's clear that a lot of people can easily mistaken different clouds for other clouds and sometimes wonder what exactly they are seeing. So in an effort to continue helping to educate everyone on how things... Continue reading…

Hail, Anyone?

Posted June 17th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 33 comments

The National Weather Service in Binghamton received over 95 reports of hail yesterday. That's right...*nearly 100 hail reports.* That's just in their area. Albany had about 50 or so as well in their area (mostly in the Capital Region and south down the Hudson Valley). But assuming that's the case,... Continue reading…

A busy afternoon...

After a mostly quiet weekend, things are going to get busy this afternoon. A strong cold front will be sweeping through this area this afternoon, and although temperatures won't be exceptionally warm (mid 70s), there's a good chance for severe weather this afternoon. Continue reading…

Midwest Mayhem

Regarding Saturday here, I don't want to go too much into to detail, but a very similar situation to Tuesday may unfold, with maybe less in the way of severe weather...or at least that's the hope. We'll talk more about that tomorrow. Right now, I want to focus on the Midwest,... Continue reading…

Significant T'Storms Possible Tuesday...

Posted June 9th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 399 comments

Well, the more I look at the data, the less I'm worried about a major severe weather outbreak up here. It might seem strange for the SPC to put us in slight risk on Day 3, keep us there on Day 2 and add a 30% possibility. Someone even... Continue reading…

Summer Has Arrived!

Posted June 6th, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 146 comments

Summer is here folks, with authority! Our first 90 degree day of the season came this afternoon. This of course, after last night's pretty ridiculous storms. It looks like our call from Tuesday of "noisy storms" was pretty appropriate. Rome recorded thunder for six consecutive hours. Doppler rainfall estimates were a... Continue reading…
Well, we are in for some incredible summer heat I think over the next 7-10 days. Let's go through some things. May Rewind Just a quick look back at May since we failed to address it, even though it was such a hot topic for us. We averaged 52.6 degrees, which miraculously... Continue reading…

Summer On the Doorstep

Posted June 2nd, 2008 by Matt Lanza. 34 comments

Summer is officially knocking at the front door, and by week's end, it will probably bust the door down. First off, the photo at right shows a very nice Mohawk Valley shadow today...notice the absence of clouds in the Valley. Thought it was kind of cool...bright blue skies overhead me... Stormtracker and Saturday's severe weather...

Posted June 1st, 2008 by Bill Kardas. 8 comments

So yesterday's severe weather wasn't as exciting as it looked before the weekend, but regardless we did get something. We did get a little action, with a strong thunderstorm that moved through Oneida County yesterday. More importantly, we got a chance to test out our new equipment. Continue reading…
